CSC Elementary School PTO is hosting the fourth annual Chess Tournament on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 18th, 2010, Noon ‘til approx. 3:30 p.m. at the Cape St. Claire Clubhouse. Prizes will be awarded to the top three elementary school players.
Entry Fee: Pantry items to be donated to the Lighthouse Shelter in Annapolis. A web link with updated information about shelter needs will be sent to participants the week before the tournament.
The tournament is open to all Cape St. Claire Elementary School students, teachers, families, and all Cape residents. This year we are also inviting students from Windsor Farm Elementary. If enough adults sign up, there will be an exhibition tournament — no prizes awarded.
Older children are also welcome to play in the exhibition tournament. If enough High School and Middle School aged players register we may create an 11-18 yr. old tournament. There are places for up to forty players and in the event that there are more applications received than space available participants will be chosen by lottery.
Tournament participants are expected to know the rules of chess and to observe good chess etiquette. Spectators are welcome and are asked to remember that the environment of a chess tournament is one of silence and calm.
Frank Newman has posted a reg. form on the community homepage, cscia.org, or contact me directly if you have questions (mhagan at magpiedesign dot com).
